SYNOPSIS

The documentary chronicles the story of India’s most revolutionary political musical outfit The Casteless Collective from its inception through the release of its debut album “Magizhchi” (Joy) in 2019. Brought together by filmmaker Pa.Ranjith, the music of the casteless collective features Gaana, a working class folk form which originated at funerals, with songs sung to liberate deceased people from a life of oppression.

Monesh is a Cinematographer and Filmmaker working mainly in the short film format. As an associate of Pa.Ranjith, he had been tasked to follow and document The Casteless Collective after their debut show. He tracks their journey from being ostracised from musical performances to performing before spellbound audiences of thousands of fans.
